The New York Times takes a stand against wild horses

UPDATE 10/01/2014 5:10PM CST: It is best to email the New York Times at senioreditor@nytimes.com and not at the email address listed below. Please continue to share this with friends, let us build a tidal wave of response and stop irresponsible journalism.

The New York Times has chosen. They are pitting the few remaining wild horses against the cattle ranchers and ignoring the truth. The truth is exactly what we thought it was. Big Energy is going to rule the West with the help of our elected officials and now the New York Times.

The lands of the American West are ideal for the New Energy Frontier (as dubbed by our Dept of the Interior). To do so, those pesky horses must be removed. But what about public outrage? That is an easy one. Get the cattle ranchers riled up – blame the drought problems on the wild horses. The cattle men are now marching across the US crying foul against the BLM and demanding that they remove the wild horses. Which is exactly what the Dept of Interior wants.

Senator Reid paved the way several years ago by introducing a bill that lowered the price of wild horse adoption fees and the number of horses one could adopt. It is not surprising that thousands of those horses were eventually sent to slaughter houses. Why would Sen. Reid do such a thing? The land the horses have been removed from is now on hold for Big Energy to use.

Who is to blame for shifting public sentiment against holding to the original rule of law (The Wild Free Roaming Horse and Burros Act) that would keep our wild horses on the range? The Media. And now the New York Times and Dave Philipps has thrown their hand in with Big Energy.

What can we do? Read the article below. And write the New York Times and Dave Philipps an email explaining that they need to go back and research the facts.

Dear Editors of the New York Times

The article published on October 1st, 2014 print edition of the New York Times by Dave Phillips is riddled with inaccuracies and must be retracted. If research was performed on the removal of the wild horses from the BLM controlled lands, the author would have known that much of the land is now in use or on hold for the Department of the Interiors’ “New Energy Frontier Program”. This program will not benefit either the horses or the cattle that live on the range. In fact, it is set to destroy the wild horses that remain, and take land from the ranchers in the region. I demand you correct the inaccuracies presented.

Signed (Your Name)

Thank you to all who have been sending in comments and emailing us with the truth. We all need to work together now to save the wild horses.

As Wild Horses Overrun the West, Ranchers Fear Land Will Be Gobbled Up

blm helicopter horse round upBEAVER COUNTY, Utah — When he was a boy on a 150,000-acre ranch here in the desert mountains, which are so remote that there is no power line and electricity comes from a turbine in a mountain spring, Mark Wintch would thrill at the sight of a rare band of wild horses kicking up dust as they disappeared over a rise.

“Now there’re so darned many,” Mr. Wintch, 38, said, shaking his head as he bounced his red pickup through sage-dotted public land that his family has ranched since 1935. “Look out there. You barely see a blade of grass.”

You would think after being threatened by Salazoo, Phillips would tell the truth but he slipped into darkness of propaganda. I hope the NYtimes is inundated with letters (I sent one this morning)to the editor demanding a retraction on the basis that there was no fact checking on this propaganda piece. Of course, there is no way to comment on the article online because they know it is BS and would be ripped apart.
I think the current stat is 90% of our media is owned by 7 companies – so much for free speech to protect us from tyranny and propaganda.

Please be aware that the author’s name is David Philipps NOT David Phillips. There is a journalist by that name as well.

That being said, Mr. Philipps did write the article 2 years ago about the missing horses…as well the article mentioned today. I, too, wonder why the change of heart?

New York times has said the wild horse go, you have sent them to jail, and then to slaughter why don'[t you get in the line and go through what the horse have to go through, be strung up, held by your back leg, not knocked out and cut open while alive, I wish this for you all who have thrown these animals out of their land for money .

OMG America’s wild horses are reproducing like rabbits all over public lands out west! The real issue is that wild horses graze on land that cattle ranchers demand for them$elve$ and it is obvious the cattlemen will do and say anything as a means to an end.

Please stop lying to the public and tell us the real reason this is happening. Cattlemen want the land for their cattle. Both animals can live in harmony together. Learn to live with it. We are tired of the BLM and the Interior department lying about everything. These precious animals are here because they are entitled to their freedom. President Obama please look into this. Sally Jewel has been assigned to do this job and she is failing miserabely. I have tried in vain to contact her and she refuses to answer the taxpayers.

You are a despicable person David Phillipps! You are spreading lies and mistruths about the wild horses. Why don’t you and the New York Times tell the truth for once and not spread lies. You know the truth but choose to tell lies. You all will answer to God one day and I am glad that I will be on the side of truth and the animals!

“The article published on October 1st, 2014 print edition of the New York Times by Dave Phillips is riddled with inaccuracies and must be retracted.” …… The American public is bombarded with propaganda from the Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Land Management constantly. … David Phillipps needs to remember it is his job to issue the truth….On this subject, in this letter he is feeding propaganda through lies and mistruths about the wild horses….Shame on you for publishing this….Lies in public media is destroying our great country…

LOOK INTO THE “ZEPHYR TRANSMISSION LINE” — THAT IS WHY THIS IS HAPPENING! Horses are a very, very small casualty to the big business and government interests that are happening right now. Tesla is about to blow up in value (inside info) and that transmission line is being plumbed directly into their new battery facility in NV that is going to be the BIGGEST IN THE WORLD. We should be glad it is here on U.S. soil to help our economy, but everybody is forgetting the horses. Elon Musk, owner of Tesla, is the biggest grant winner from our Government right now with over 1.2 BILLION between his companies. Electric cars are killing these horses. Write to Tesla, complain. Nobody is making the connection.

The BLM and ranchers really know how to screw up a beautiful thing. In the end, though, the ranchers and their burgers on 4 legs will get screwed as well. The energy companies will see to it.
As far as Dave Philips is concerned, whose pocket is he in and why not thoroughly research a topic before spewing rubbish??
