Massachusetts State Police have offered a moving tribute following the death of Elliot, a long-serving four-legged member of its mounted division.

The police confirmed on its Facebook page that Elliot passed away yesterday, surrounded by mounted troopers.

“Elliot taught many troopers how to ride and perfect their horsemanship during his 15-year tenure,” the emotional post read.

“Elliot patrolled many parks and beaches in the Commonwealth and was a crowd favorite for children and adults alike.

“Elliot was always a part of the major events in the City of Boston, such as sports championship celebrations/crowd control and many years serving at the 4th of July festivities at the Esplanade.

“He was also a mainstay at Gillette Stadium events, whether it be a New England Patriots game or a concert.”

Elliot always stood head and shoulders above the rest, the mounted division said.

“His calming demeanor and rock solid stature at these events is what made him such a valuable member of the unit.

“Elliot really excelled at school and camp events because of his kind way with children.
