To
my friends in the press,
Welcome to Luck, TX.
Meet the next batch of
horses that I adopted
from Habitat for
Horses. I'm encouraging
other folks to do the
same. I adopted from
Habitat for Horses
because they are more
than just a horse
rescue. They are
educators, investigators,
and activists. Visit
their web-site (www.habitatforhorses.org)
to learn all you can
about this great
organization. Right now
we're all trying to put
the focus on an
important bill, S. 1915
that is awaiting action
in the Senate.
Following passage in the
House of
Representatives, the
American Horse Slaughter
Prevention Act is
pending in the Senate.
As you know, the measure
would ban the slaughter
of horses for human
consumption and the
domestic and
international transport
of live horses or
horseflesh for the same
purpose.
We hope the bill will be
voted on by the Senate
when Congress reconvenes
on December 5th,
but there will be
limited time available
and only issues seen as
essential are expected
to be addressed. We
need to be sure Congress
recognizes that this
legislation is critical,
as approximately 2,000
horses are being hauled
to slaughter and
brutally killed with
every week this bill
awaits action in the
Senate.
As the press, you can
make a real difference
in the next few days.
Please write about it,
talk about, and let's
put the pressure on our
representatives to do
what the majority of
taxpayers wants them to
do: Vote on S. 1915
this coming week, and
make that a "yes" vote.
Also, please contact
both of your Senators
today, urging their
co-sponsorship of S.
1915, the Senate
companion bill to H.R.
503, and requesting a
vote on the legislation when
they return on December
5th, which is their last
chance to vote.
Thanks,

P.S. For more

AUSTIN, TX. (Dec. 2,
2006) —Habitat for
Horses Inc. (HfH), a
not-for-profit
organization committed
to the rescue and
rehabilitation
of neglected,
abused and homeless
horses, announced today
that Willie Nelson and
his family have adopted
ten additional horses
from the organization,
bringing the total
number of HfH horses
adopted by the Nelsons
to twenty-one. The new
horses, all paints, are
currently held in foster
homes throughout Texas,
and range in condition
from an abandoned former
stud horse to an
emaciated mare and foal,
donated to Habitat for
Horses in lieu of
seizure by law
enforcement officials.
Every horse HfH rescues
has a similarly sad
story but thanks to the
generosity of the Nelson
family, ten of these
stories now have new
happy endings.
"Dad knows there are
thousands of horses out
there who need good
homes, and he just
decided that we had room
for more,” said Amy
Nelson. “Every day
these horses get more
comfortable and more
willing to trust us.
Anyone who loves horses
and has the resources
should consider
adopting. It’s pure joy
to watch them flourish,
especially knowing what
they’ve been through.”
“There are a lot of
horse organizations out
there, but I have yet to
come across any that go
to the lengths that
Habitat for Horses does
to save and protect
horses,” Mr. Nelson
said. “Everyone that
loves horses should join
and support Habitat for
Horses.”
The horses will be
delivered to the Nelson
ranch on Sunday, Dec. 3,
where they will join the
eleven HfH horses
adopted by the Nelsons
just two months ago.
