3rd
Day in the Panhandle
Friday, March 30th – Dust
and Doctors
by Jerry Finch
Yesterday, the winds started picking
up early in the morning. By 10 am,
we knew what was coming. With no
vegetation covering the ground, the
dust started kicking up. |

By noon, the situation became very
serious. Most of the roads out of
McLean were closed. Travel became
almost impossible. We expect the
same situation this weekend, with 30
mph winds in the forecast.

Wednesday was Doctor Day for the
five burned horses now under our
care.

And early this morning, Val and
newly arrived Charlotte completed
their feeding routine.

With more volunteers coming this
weekend, we’ll have more chores to
complete. There is a possibility
that we will have a barn in which to
place these horses, and some of the
30 plus burned horses that we now
know about.
It looks like we will be involved in
this for the next six weeks. There
are baby calves that will be placed
in our care also, who have feet with
severe burns. According to the doc,
it isn’t time yet to make a call.
Thanks to the efforts of so many,
help is finally on the way. Even the
feed being given to these horses is
donated. More hay is being brought
tomorrow, and more volunteers will
be arriving. Click here for
