Super Bowl 2014: Broncos mascot, Thunder the horse, going to the game
By: Kevin Manahan
That’s Thunder, the Arabian gelding who serves as the Broncos’ mascot — and good-luck charm — and gallops around Mile High Stadium after each touchdown. Thunder, according to a report in the Denver Post, will be at the Super Bowl — although he might be on limited duty.
With the game at MetLife Stadium — a neutral site — the NFL isn’t likely to allow Thunder to rub Richard Sherman’s nose in every Peyton Manning TD pass. So, while Thunder might be allowed on the field, he probably will have to just clap (and whinny) after touchdowns like other Broncos fans.
The 900-pound horse will be flown out next Thursday, the report said. Let’s hope he’s not in a middle seat in coach. (Just kidding: He’ll be transported on a cargo plane, just like Olympic horses travel.)
Habitat for Horses is a 501.c.3 nonprofit equine protection organization supported solely by donations. We have around 200 donkeys and horses under our care, plus one ornery, old mule. Most of them are here because law enforcement removed them from their previous owner. Our ability to rehabilitate and rehome them comes from the financial support of people like you. Please support us by making a donation for the horses we all serve. Click HERE to donate
