What You'll Find
Within this section will be the photos of seized horses as they undergo rehabilitation. At times, some of these photos will be hard to look at. Starvation is ugly. There is no picture that can truly show the devastation that lack of food and care can cause on the body of an animal. The rehabilitation process is slow, often hindered by other physical problems like worms, bad teeth, scars on the intestinal wall and the lack of enzymes in the stomach.

We've found that as the body shuts down, so does the brain - what we refer to as "brain death." That will to live is sometimes so lost that recovery seems almost impossible. A lot of effort is made to renew the energy of life in these horses. We're usually successful in this effort, but not always.

bennyBenny - Oct., 2005
Benny looks amazing. Old age has nothing to do with being skinny.

bennyBenny - May, 2005
Benny, who has 25-year-old soulful eyes, was signed over to HfH after we convinced the owner that he shouldn't shoot his horse.

triggerTrigger - April, 2005
Trigger is a palomino. He is a sweet horse who is also extremely underweight and needs lots of TLC.

mollyMolly - Oct., 2005
Molly has gained enough to weight to be ridden. She will be available for adoption soon.

mollyMolly - April, 2005
Molly was donated to us. She is a gentle 25 year old QH mare. She is underweight and suffering from rain rot.

jasperJasper - July 2005
It's been awhile since our last update on Jasper. Our delay is due mainly because dropping extra pounds for Jasper has been slow-going. I think we are finally seeing a bit of progress though. Obviously, he still has some to shed.

jasperJasper - November, 2004
Anyone? Anyone? It's going to take a while before we really see some weight loss on this "little" guy.

jasperJasper - August, 2004
Can anyone tell if he's lost weight?? Hopefully, we'll see some weight loss within the next few months.

jasperJasper - July, 2004
Jasper is extremely overweight. Quite simply, he needs to be on a diet.
