Hughes is a pleasant and well behaved horse, friendly with both horses and people of all ages. According to the vet, he has a birth defect on his left rear hock that causes his knee to buckle in. This does not cause him pain, however he can not be ridden. His disposition makes him perfect as a companion horse.
