Rescuing the Forgotten Horses

Our ranch in Hitchcock is a wonderful facility where abused and abandoned horses, donkeys – all our equine friends find hope, healing and new homes with loving families. There is so much more we can do. Our goal is to have enough land and resources to build the infrastructure needed to not only house more abused and abandoned equine, but also provide a place of education and community access. That is what the Greener Pastures Land Fund is all about.

Habitat for Horses Mission:

  • To promote and secure the safety and well being of all horses.
  • To encourage education concerning physical and mental health of horses.
  • To explore and establish connections with young adults who can benefit emotionally from involvement with horses.
  • To promote the proper training of horses through positive training techniques.
  • To provide a home for those horses who are no longer able to be productive.

Our Goal for the Greener Pastures Land Fund:

  • The 200-300 acre spread envisioned for Habitat for Horses would be inland from the current ranch site in Hitchcock.
  • Some of the property would be dedicated for hay production.
  • The current ranch would remain an intake, surgery and intensive care treatment facility, transferring recovering horses to the larger ranch for rehabilitation.
  • A covered, enclosed arena would allow horses to be test-ridden by those interested in adopting and allow for equine-assisted therapy programs for special-needs children, burn victims and others.
