Debbie, you are right. Steve King (R-Iowa) is a sycophant for Big Ag, the people who are bringing “food secrecy” to America. Apparently they are afraid of voter’s initiatives, like Prop 2 that does not allow battery cages in Calif. and Prop 6, also in Calif. that makes horse slaughter illegal in that state. The King Amendment would nullify all state’s attempts determine the treatment of farm animals within their state (State’s Rights) by superseding a dictatorial decree from the federal government under the guise of “interstate commerce.” What he hypocritically advocates for is the opposite of the meme the far right, including Mr. King uses against expanding health care coverage (Obamacare). Seems they want it both ways without accountability to the people – us – they are supposed to represent in their effort to maximize profit.

We still have the power of the purse and can refuse to buy processed, convenience and fast foods – the money makers for Big Ag. Eat locally, organic, grow a garden, learn to cook!

Valley Meat Co. is a powder keg situation. Law enforcement must be able to see this. Otherwise law abiding people, rural people who own and love horses throughout the country, and animal lovers everywhere, would cheer en masse if the place burned to the ground. It is so ripe for eco-terrorism and/or violent confrontation because of the high level of emotionality. Allowing this ticking time bomb to continue rather than trying to prevent it/shut it down is beyond irresponsible. Some in the government, like the representatives who wrote this letter, obviously see this are doing what they can. God bless them.

Steve King is from Iowa and he also thinks it’s okay for children to attend dog fights.
