Tattobi
Breed: Grade
Sex: Gelding
DOB: 1976
Weight:
Height: 14.2 hh
Arrival Date: November 2004
Location: Austin, TX

Temperament: Tattobi has doe eyes and a pretty head and seems like a super nice horse!   He would be great in a family setting.

Physical problems / health issues: He still has great energy when turned out (runs, bucks).  December 2005 Update: His digestive tract is slowing down due to his age and it is starting to be difficult to keep weight on him.  He tends to get constipated easily but adding alfalfa and rice bran oil to his diet seems to help. Tattobi has some arthritis in his knees and joints, not uncommon at his age.  He still has good range of motion in the front but the back is very limited.  He can drag his back feet when he walks at times and when the vet picked up his left rear to check for range of motion, his right leg gave way under his own weight and he fell into the vet's shoulder.  He will be started on joint supplements next week, during hard cold snaps (30 degrees and lower) he gets Bute to help with pain and should be blanketed.  In good weather, he still has energy and will trot around the pasture.  Because of his age and arthritis issues, he is a companion only horse.

Interaction with horses: He is pastured with a 3-year old filly, and I have seen absolutely no dominant behavior out of him.  He has attached himself to my 8-year old daughter and will walk up to her when she comes out no matter where he is in the pasture.

Interaction with people:

History: His owner donated him due to a family health crisis.  Due to medical bills, they could no longer afford to properly care for him. He was a pleasure horse for a 14 year old girl, reported to have done search and rescue work.

Training / abilities: Tattobi is well broke to ride, but companion only due to his age.

Special needs: Tattobi is missing four back teeth so he can't eat hay and must have a senior feed "soup".  Examples are a watered down senior, crimped oats and alfalfa pellets mixture, beet pulp mixed with senior or even a watered down complete feed could work.  Alfalfa and rice bran oil have helped his digestive system.

Other comments: Sweet old guy, unusual color and still some sparkle in his eye.  Safe for pretty much anyone on the ground.
