Temperament: Opal’s Jem is a wonderful horse.

Physical problems / health issues:

Interaction with horses: Opal’s Jem gets along well with her pasture mated.

Interaction with people: She is very affectionate and well behaved.

History: Seized by law enforcement in Hunt County and awarded to Habitat for Horses due to neglect / abuse, her previous use is unknown.

Training / abilities: She is pushy on the ground and it is apparent that it has been a while that since Opal has been worked with.  She is a bit nervous in that she has just been moved and everything is scary to her.  However, after she realized that she could trust me, she willingly followed me to the round pen.  Started by running her at liberty and it took about 20 minutes at a canter for her to settle and look at me for direction.

Started working with her on her ground movement.  It is obvious she didn’t understand what I was asking of her but she really just wanted to try.  Moved on to lunging and she responded well other than she does try to pull away.  She is definitely right handed and responds better on her right side.

Anyway after some typical ground work we put the saddle on her and she accepted it without incident.  She never struck out, kicked or bucked in response to anything.  When I have another person around, I will step up in the saddle and see how things go.  At this point I believe that she has had some training, however, it has been an extended period of time since she has been ridden in any capacity.  She will need some additional training and softening to be ready to be a "finished" horse but she has a pretty good foundation.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Intermediate.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No. Reared? No. Kicked? No. Bitten? No. Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes. Lead? Yes. Tie? Yes. Trailer? Yes. Clip? Unknown. Trim Feet? Yes. Bathe?
