Breed: Arabian
Sex: Gelding
DOB: April 19,
1979
Height:
~14.1. hh
Color: Flea
bitten gray
Markings:
Arrival
Date: October 14,
2007
Location:
Cleveland, TX Adoption Fee:
$250
Temperament:
He's a gentle, old soul,
meek and mild for
now. With better
nourishment and
attainment of better
health, it will be seen
whether or not he will
develop an attitude. His
foster parents were told
that he was the dominant
horse in the herd he
came from.
Physical problems / health issues:
Came in very
emaciated. Other than
being very skinny, he
seems to be in good
health. His eyes are
clear, and he's very
alert. He was even seen
in his round pen with
his tail up in the air,
trotting about 10-15
steps one day when the
air was cold. He was
feeling good.
Interaction with horses:
During the day, he is
placed in the round pen
where he can graze and
walk around a bit. At
night, he is taken to a
stall under the pole
barn so he will have a
roof over him. During
inclement or cold
weather, a tarp is
tacked up on the north
side of the stall as a
wind break, and he wears
his blanket for the
night when it is
cold. He is being kept
separated from the herd
at his foster home
because of a 3 year old
gelding who will chase
him. He was turned loose
with the herd on two
occasions, and the 3
year old gelding chased
him each time. In his
emaciated state, he
doesn't need to burn up
energy by being chased
or kicked, etc. Other
than the 3 year old
gelding, it is believed
that he would do fine
with the rest of the
herd, three mares.
Interaction with people:
Is very calm and
compliant. Leads well on
a halter – just goes
slow.
History:
Surrendered in lieu of
seizure. Found starving
in a pasture with other
horses who were doing
just fine. Don't know if
he was wormy or just
couldn't eat grass or
hay. His fosters had his
teeth floated and he is
eating both grass and
hay. His current diet
consists of soaked beet
pulp, Nutrena Equine
Senior, and a carrot. He
has been wormed and
vaccinated.
Training / abilities:
His foster parents were
told that at one time he
was used as a therapy
horse. Abilities will be
evaluated once he has
regained his health.
Experience level
required to work with
this horse:
Beginner.
Has this horse ever:
Bucked? No. Reared? No.
Kicked?
No. Bitten? No. Other?
Ground handling:
Catch? Yes. Lead?
Yes. Tie? Unknown.
Trailer? Yes.
Clip?
Unknown. Trim Feet?
Yes. Bathe?
A little antsy, but did
reasonably well. His
foster dad got the
impression that if he
had ever been bathed
before, it had been a
long time ago.
Special needs:
His teeth are worn, and
on the left side of his
mouth, his teeth are
wavy. Having his teeth
floated did away with
the sharp points and has
apparently helped him to
eat grass and hay
again. He is currently
being fed soaked beet
pulp, and Nutrena Equine
Senior feed.
Other comments:
Since Image was in such
an emaciated state, his
system is being
reintroduced to food
very gradually. His
fosters are being very
careful not to feed him
too much too quickly so
he doesn't colic or
founder.
