Temperament: Lightning is a very cute, lovable and curious young mare.  She’s energetic and loves to run and play.  What a beauty in motion she is!  She’s not a spooky horse at all, but will do some blowing at new things.  She does like to approach new things though and check them out.  She is not flighty at all and as she gets older and continues to be exposed to new things, she should prove ever more solid.

Physical problems / health issues: None known.

Interaction with horses: Gets along well with other horses, is not dominant in her current herd environment with one other mare.  Lightning seems to get very bonded to other horses, so can have some separation issues at times.  However, the separation anxiety has greatly improved with time in her foster home and trust in her handler.

Interaction with people: Lightning approaches anyone and everyone with equal interest.  She will bob her head up and down when asking for more apple treats.  She is respectful of your space, but can sometimes act like a typical youngster with a short attention span.

History: Lightning was purchased by her donor at a very young age, but failed to grow tall enough for her that person’s needs.  She was never abused or neglected in any way and was worked with a great deal.

Training / abilities: Lightning has good ground manners, walks nicely on a lead, halters easily in the pasture with no problems in catching or standing.  She will pick up her feet with a simple tap on her leg and the word “up” or “foot”.  She doesn’t ground tie yet, but is a gem once she knows she has to stand still tied.   Clippers were not a problem once she got used to the new sound.  She loads easily in a trailer.  Her donor did some round pen work/lungeing with her.  She accepts a dressage whip all over her body, including her head.  She’s been ponied off other horses.  She has been tacked up, including wearing a bit and worked in that gear.  Her donor also sacked her out with various objects and more than one type of saddle, in addition to sitting on her.   Lightning posed no objections to having someone on her back.  She gives to poll pressure, knows walk, trot, whoa and back commands (and will do these with or without a lead rope).

Experience level required to work with this horse: Advanced beginner on the ground, intermediate with training skills or working with a trainer to get her going under saddle.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No. Reared? No. Kicked? No.  Bitten? No. Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes. Lead? Yes Tie? Yes Trailer? Yes Clip? Yes Trim Feet? Yes. Bathe? Yes

Special needs:

Other comments: Lightning really wants to please her handler and tries her best. She’s got a very level head and loads of personality.  She has a very pretty dish head and if she was a human would surely have dimples!  She’s that cute.

Lightning’s sire, Cavu Malachi, and his brothers, Paragon and Raj (and his son Vaquero) are all working cow horse champions and/or reserve champions in the Arabian Regional shows. Her grandsire, Ralvon Elijah, was an Australian, British and American halter and performance champion.
