Temperament: Lehla is a very sweet older mare who will be a wonderful pet and companion horse.  She is gentle and does not have an aggressive bone in her body.  Sometimes she gets afraid and when she does, she stops what she is doing or walks away from whatever is frightening her.  New noises and situations are the triggers for her fears. 

Physical problems / health issues: She came into HfH care malnourished and with severe sunburn on her blaze.  She is now lean but a good weight.  Lehla has some hair loss on her blaze remaining from the sunburn problem.  These are not raw places, just small bald spots.  They are shrinking as time goes on.  She appears to have a touch of arthritis in her hind legs.

Interaction with horses: Lehla lives in a pen between two geldings and gets along with both her neighbors over the fences.  She bonded with a young foal who was not her own but she took to him like his mother. 

Interaction with people: She is very affectionate after she gets to know you.  You can be her best friend if you bring her an apple.  Two would be better.    

History: Surrendered by her owner.

Training / abilities: Lehla is easy to catch and handle on the ground.  She is an elderly lady and does not need to be ridden at her age. 

Experience level required to work with this horse: Beginner who is familiar with senior horse care.

Other comments:  When Lehla was being a mother figure to the foal, she once nipped in defense of him at a person who was, in her opinion, too near to him.  The person thought that Lehla was being protective, not mean.
