Temperament: Flannel didn't have much handling prior to coming to the organization, but her foster mom managed to work well with her.  She can be unsure of new people, but has come a long way in foster care as far as desensitization goes.  She can still be spooky with objects however and despite 30 days ground work with a professional, she often acts like it's the first time she's seen things from her normal routine.  We are unsure if this is related to possible vision issues.  She often had problems negotiating the perimeter of the round pen her trainer used and flinches less if you have direct contact with her.  She responds well to body work and really relaxes when your hands are in contact with her.  From a distance, she gets more unsure.  Her trainer also suspected vision loss as she consistently turns her head rather than moves her eyes when trying to make out objects.

Physical problems / health issues: Possible vision issues.  She has a sensitivity to light and seems to blink very often.  Her foster mom put a fly mask on her to help this.  Her eyes were checked by a vet, but there is no apparent trauma in the eyes or signs of infection that would indicate vision loss.  Perhaps it's something she was born with, she definitely has some sight, but we don't feel she has 100% sight.

Interaction with horses: Gets along well with every horse she's been put with. Not dominant at all.

Interaction with people:

History: She was seized due to neglect and awarded to HfH. Probable Broodmare

Training / abilities: Ground manners are okay and attempts at training failed due to possible vision issues. She's just an older broodmare that seems beyond the point of trainability.  Companion only, no breeding.

Experience level required to work with this horse:  Intermediate.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No. Reared? Yes. Kicked? Yes, when nervous. Bitten? No. Other? No.

Ground handling: Catch? Yes, might be difficult with new people  Lead? Yes Tie? Yes Trailer? Yes with feed incentive Clip? No. Trim Feet? Yes Bathe? Yes

Special needs:

Other comments: Flannel is refined in looks - she's packed with loads of the classic Quarter Horse muscle.
