Emily
Rose
Breed:
Sex: Mare DOB:
1990
Height:
15.0
Color: Sorrel
Markings: White
face, four stockings Location:
Boerne, TX
Adoption Fee:
$100
Temperament:
I cannot say enough
about Emily Rose. She
is sweet, beautiful,
obedient, willing, and
wonderful to just about
everyone. She likes
people with calm,
gentle,
patient personalities.
She stops eating just to
be groomed. She is
quite calm, but needs a
little reassurance in
certain situations.
Physical problems / health issues:
Although Emily is not
that old, she does have
arthritis. She has a
constant limp, and does
need to be watched. As
long as she is kept up
with, she should be
okay. She should always
be kept on a
supplement. I have put
liniment on her and
poulticed her when she
is really bad. Emily
also has ongoing skin
problems, and always
battles with summer itch
during the peak of the
season. During the
summer months, I bathe
her and spray her with a
medicated shampoo/spray
every day. Emily's
hooves will never be
wonderful, and if she is
not taken care of, she
will most likely develop
laminitis or founder.
Emily requires extensive
day-to-day care, but she
is obviously well worth
the time. If you cannot
dedicate a good two
hours to Emily every
day, she is not the
horse for you. I am not
including feeding.
These two hours are
simply for Emily's
everyday care. Interaction with horses:
Emily is not the alpha
mare. She can be a
feisty little thing, so
she will boss other
horses around, but she
is also very submissive
and polite to the lead
horses. She loves foals
and yearlings. At her
other foster home, she
was placed with a young
horse and completely
took her under her
wing. She also gets
along with other mares,
miniatures, and
geldings.
Interaction with people:
Emily is one of the most
special, sweetest mares
I have ever had the
pleasure of caring for.
She is great with other
animals. She can be the
slightest bit impatient,
so you do need to kindly
correct her occasionally
(you should not
be forceful and
heavy-handed with her,
because she is overly
obedient and tolerant).
Emily just needs a ton
of love and care.
History: Emily
was seized by law
enforcement, as
mentioned above.

Emily is a companion
horse only.
Experience level

this horse:
Knowledgeable
intermediate to advanced
horse owner.

had hardly even had a
saddle on her back
before) Reared? No
Kicked?
No Bitten? No Other?

Lead?

Yes Trailer? Yes
Clip? Yes,
fairly
Trim Feet?
Yes Bathe?
Yes
Special needs:
Lots of love, time, and
care. Adoptive/foster
homes need to know what
they are doing, and have
experience with and
knowledge about senior
horses. Emily should be
turned out during the
day, and stalled at
night or in inclement
weather. Emily needs to
have a fly sheet & mask
on, and have her tail
wrapped during the
summer due to the itch.
She requires a
sheet/blanket in
cool/cold weather.
Other comments:
Emily is a great girl!
However, she truly does
need a competent
adoptive/foster home.
She cannot be brushed
aside or stuck in a
pasture to establish and
fend for herself. She
needs extensive daily
attention and love. She
can never be left
without a companion. I
hope she finds a great
home with lots of love
and treats!
