Temperament: Easy going gelding who responds well under saddle. Likes attention.

Physical problems / health issues: None now. Dunn came in quite skinny with a very enlarged penis due to trauma of some sort. After weeks at the vet clinic wearing a jock strap to hold him up, in attempts to get the swelling down, the decision was made to amputate due to the limb being dead. He urinates as normal, he just doesn’t have a penis that comes out to be seen (they left only about 3 inches on him). He has healed with no problem at all.

Interaction with horses: When Dunn first came in, he could be pastured with anyone, but as he has gained weight and feels better now, he can only be with a mare or alone. He is very dominant and even acts like he was proud cut, though he has been tested for testosterone.

Interaction with people: He loves people and attention!

History: His past history is not really known. When he was picked up it was reported that he was registered and only 8 yrs. old (although we didn't get any papers). The vet stated after looking at his teeth he was at least 16 yrs. Old, however, he doesn’t act like a 16 yr. old (more like an 8 yr. old). He was also kept in a small pen with only mud due to the rain.

Training / abilities: Dunn is very broke to ride and responds well under saddle and being ridden with other geldings.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Intermediate

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No Reared? No Kicked? No Bitten? No Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes Lead? Yes Tie? Yes Trailer? Yes Clip? Unknown Trim Feet? Yes, but has issues (see special comments) Bathe? Yes

Special needs: He is currently on 12% sweet feed and doing well. Dunn has some issues that lead me to believe he was physically abused at one time. He sat back a couple of times while trimming and shoeing, but only appeared to do this if the farrier refused to give him his foot when he tried to pull it away. So if someone forcibly holds his feet he will set back but if they let him have it and then pick it up again he does fine. So a very good gentle farrier is a MUST with him. He has also been twitched in the past to the point that he has an old scar that resembles a hair lip (where the lip healed wrong). If you look at his top lip, it looks as if you had just taken the twitch off (permanent tissue damage/scar). Also he has reared when attempting to give a paste wormer (totally out of character for him) so I tried it several times with the same reaction. It is the little white tube he is afraid of, who knows what someone done to him with a small tube. I then put the wormer on my finger and place in the edge of his mouth and took it with no problem.

Other comments: Nice riding horse. When riding, if a few minutes are taken to work with him with scary things, he overcomes his fears easily. Has also been ridden in the lake and loves the water.
