Temperament: Dolly is a 10 year old paint with blue eyes.  She is a small mare but has a huge, winning personality!   She is a terrific, loving kid's horse and is a great addition to your pasture.  When she was surrendered, Dolly loaded into the trailer with no lead rope and stood quietly while other horses were caught and loaded.  She trailers wonderfully and comes up to anyone willing to speak to her!  She did great with the farrier and stands quietly for grooming, etc.  She wears a fly mask on sunny days to protect her blue eyes and couldn’t care less about having it put on.

Physical problems / health issues: She has an issue with her back right leg at times that is believed to be a muscular disorder and does not cause her pain when worked lightly, but she will not be able to withstand heavy use for extended periods of time.  She has not been formally diagnosed at this time, but an evaluation determined this to be the case. Other than that condition which does not affect her use as a companion horse, her health is excellent.

Interaction with horses: She currently lives with two mares and two llamas and is not the leader, being submissive to the other mares.

Interaction with people: Dolly loves people!  Very friendly and loving and is a great companion horse. She will come running to you from across the pasture when you call her name, just to be loved.

History: Surrendered in lieu of seizure

Training / abilities: Dolly has had her ground work, been saddled and ridden by experienced riders. Additionally, she has spent time with a professional trainer. Conclusion of those riders is that she is not a safe riding horse. She works O.K. in a pen, either on a lunge line or under saddle with a rider, however, when she goes outside the small pen into the open areas, her walk is O.K., she is difficult to manage at a trot, and Dolly becomes downright exciting when urged into a lope. She has been fitted with a variety of bits/bridles (curb, hackamore, and bosal) all with the same results.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Beginner

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? Yes. Reared? Yes. Kicked? No. Bitten? No. Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes Lead? Yes Tie? Yes Trailer? Yes Clip? Unknown. Trim Feet? Yes Bathe? Yes.

Special needs: Dolly is an easy keeper but needs to protect her blue eyes from the summer sun.

Other comments: Dolly is a magnificent companion horse that needs a loving “for-ever home.” Now fully rehabilitated, she has been easily handled by children (9 years old) and by old folks. Other than not carrying you down the trail on her back, she will gladly stroll along by your side giving you all her love and companionship. She wants you to be her “forever home”
