Temperament: Denver can be timid and insecure when not with her herd mates, perhaps because she may not have had human handling for a long time before her rescue. She gets along well with other horses, and is calm when they are in sight. She hangs with another geriatric mare, but is seen more and more with other herd members as well. Denver is easy to handle and will come up for attention when other horses are getting attention. She has good manners and has never been aggressive towards her handler. Her coat and body condition are steadily improving. She has nice bare feet and will stand quietly for hoof care. She leads well and responds to pressure. I just started riding her in the round pen and she is light and sensitive, responsive to the slightest leg cues.

Physical problems / health issues: She needs pelleted feed and/or extruded ration as she does not chew well enough to thrive on hay and grass. Her coat, eyes, and skin have improved dramatically and she is a cute little mare!

Interaction with horses: She became part of the onsite eight-member herd very quickly, and she has not shown aggression towards the other horses.

Interaction with people: Good.

History: She was part of a 26 horse seizure in Galveston County and was primarily used as a brood mare.

Training / abilities: It is now obvious that she has been ridden in her lifetime; she is getting more comfortable with the saddling process and is not bothered at all being mounted from a mounting block. She moves out with a hint of leg pressure and reins with a rope halter.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Handler needs to know how to interact with horses or they would lose this mare’s trust very quickly. Rider needs to be very calm, easy, and light, she’ll scoot quickly with slightest leg pressure.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No. Reared? No. Kicked? No. Bitten? No. Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Getting better. Lead? Yes. Tie? Yes. Trailer? Yes. Clip? Unknown. Trim Feet? Yes. Bathe? Getting better.

Special needs: Pelleted feed and extruded hay ration such as One & Only.

Other comments: Denver is blossoming and deserves to have the best care and treatment.
