Temperament: Claudia loves people, and loves attention. Though she started off very fearful, her fears have disappeared, and she now is loving and easier.

Physical problems / health issues: Claudia had a fractured leg that was left untreated. She was seized and awarded to HfH. The leg has been operated on successfully, although her knee joint is fused. Because of this, Claudia is companion only.

Interaction with horses: She loves everybody that brings her cookies!!!

Interaction with people: She loves attention and brushing. She will sleep with her head on your shoulder.

History: When initially seized, Claudia would kick and bite and lunge at people with intent to harm, but it was because she was terrified. She probably had never been touched, and it took several hours and numerous people to get her into a trailer. She had never been haltered, and though the clinic tried a couple of days to do it nicely, she ended up having to be roped and choked down to get a halter on, so she could have a coggins pulled. She remained untouchable for about a month while the decision was made as to whether or not she could withstand the rigors of having her leg surgically repaired (The knee is fused due to the horrific fracture. There was no way to repair it so there would be movement in the joint.   However, overnight her fear disappeared, and she went from pinning her ears and lunging at people to being inquisitive, easy to halter, and loving brushing and attention. She had surgery six weeks ago and is at home on the barn recuperating. The cast will come off in about two more months, and then she will be ready for adoption. She will be the most beautiful companion in the pasture for some lucky family!

UPDATE:    CAST IS OFF....CLAUDIA IS FREE OF THAT EXTRA WEIGHT!!!  She runs, bucks, and kicks all across the pasture.  She is moving great with one leg that doesn't bend...because she has three that work fine!!!  There was a complication with one of the plates in her fused leg, but it was removed a couple of months ago, and all is well in Claudia's world.  As long as you have cookies, she is your best friend!!

Training / abilities: Has learned to lead (once you get that halter on her!    She has decided she likes freedom WAY more than being caught and handled).

Experience level required to work with this horse: Intermediate.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? Yes, but out of fear.  Has not done it in over a month. Reared? Yes…same as above. Kicked? Yes….but again is was out of fear and she has not done it in over a month. Bitten? Same as above. Other?  Doesn’t like her temperature taken!

Ground handling: Catch? Yes. Lead? Yes. Tie? Sometimes. Trailer? Going through a phase where she doesn't want to get in the trailer.  After all her surgeries, etc...I don't really blame her.  But getting her in the trailer is difficult. . Clip? Yes. Trim Feet? Fronts are fine...back we're still working on. Bathe? Learning.

Special needsPatience, patience patience...and stock in a horse cookie company!  Claudia needs a patient farrier, but other than that, just a place to call home.

Other comments: When Claudia first came to us, she could not walk or move like a normal horse. Her leg was so crooked that she literally had to hop like a rabbit, or else she would trip herself. She now ‘walks’, even with her cast on!!
