Temperament: Chiron is an easy going young guy, has a wonderful temperament and is very people oriented

Physical problems / health issues: Chiron is very healthy, though he did have surgery to correct an aneurism in his jugular vein at A&M. The operation was performed by Dr. Rakestraw.  It was a very unusual case, quite rare.  The jugular vein had to be cut off.  He recovered well and this should pose no long term health issue, however it could affect his circulation and his ability to process oxygen efficiently when asked to perform since this is the major artery, so he cannot be ridden hard.  His activity will need to be monitored.  He was cleared for light activity and with monitoring, perhaps more, this has not been tested since he's not formally broke to ride. Chiron presently bombs around just fine and does not seem compromised in terms of abilities.

Chiron's face burns in the summer and he needs sunscreen applied regularly to protect it or a breakaway fly mask can be used.

Lameness problems:   Chiron had a fencing accident when much younger that resulted in some scarring and a bone chip out of a hock.  He's sound and has not taken any lame steps.  However, he has not been ridden regularly, so we are not sure how he will hold up to rigorous riding.  Light to medium riding (walk, trot, canter, some trail riding and arena work). No barrels, poles or jumping recommended. He has been worked in the round pen and also freely gallops and moves out in the pasture with no visible signs of lameness

Interaction with horses: He gets along fine with others

Interaction with people:

History: Chiron was donated to LSER/HfH and adopted out after surgery on his jugular vein was complete.  He was recently relinquished back to our care through no fault of his own.  He’s been a pasture pet, he was likely ridden around some, but is not formally trained

Training / abilities: Chiron has been saddled and had people on him. He stands quietly for saddling and for the rider to mount. He does move out slowly but only because he does not totally understand what is expected of him/ he is not lazy and is very willing to try. He has not been formally started and really will need to work on moving off when someone is on him, reining and all the basics. He does understand some round pen work and has very nice gaits.  He is a gentle horse and with the right training he could be a wonderful pleasure or trail horse.

Current abilities: Light or Medium riding only, see lameness issues. Chiron needs both ground work and saddle training but should progress quickly because of his sweet disposition and attitude. He offers no resistance when trying new things and seems to want to please. He does not get upset very easily and stands quietly under pressure even if he does not understand what to do.

Experience level required to work with this horse: . Advanced beginner taking lessons to Intermediate on the ground, experienced trainer under saddle.

Has this horse ever: Bucked? No. Reared? No  Kicked?  No . Bitten? No  Other? No

Ground handling: Catch? Yes Lead? Yes Tie? Yes Trailer? Yes Clip? No Trim Feet? Yes  Bathe? Yes

Special needs: Easy keeper but needs sunscreen on his face or a fly mask for protection from the sun

Other comments: This is a beautiful, flashy gelding with a steady temperament.  With training, he will make someone a wonderful riding partner
