Temperament: On a scale of 1 – 10 (calm to excitable) Bill is a 6.5. He can be a bit nervous but is quick to get over it. When in his stall to eat he will occasionally pace or paw. If he spokes in the pasture he takes off and after a few paces will turn to face his fear. In the right hands he would learn to be more confident. He has a very trusting nature.

Physical problems / health issues: He does have hoof problems, thin soles, bruising and cracking. He has been x-rayed to check for founder or laminitis which was negative. Bill was very thin or malnourished upon arrival but has put on about 100-150 lbs.

Interaction with horses: Gets along with everyone in a mixed herd, geldings, mares and yearlings. He loves to run and play but is not dominating.

Interaction with people: Bill is a very sweet horse and loves human interaction. He will always come to greet you in the pasture. He usually has to be encouraged to leave the corral because he likes to hang around to see what is happening. He can become pushy or mouthy due to his playful nature so he requires good leadership and consistency.

History: A previous owner stated that Bill has been on the race track and is a descendant of Secretariat. Also that he was nice to ride at the walk and trot but could be explosive at the canter. When she had to move north he was sent to be retired which is where he was seized from.

Training / abilities: Bill has a real desire to please. I have only done ground work with him but he catches on very quickly and is willing to learn.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Intermediate to advanced.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked?  Reared?  Kicked?  Bitten?  Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes. Lead? Yes. Tie? Yes. Trailer? Yes. Clip?  Trim Feet? Yes. Bathe? Yes.

Special needs: Further diagnosis to appropriately treat his hoof problems.

Other comments: Bill is really a nice horse. He would bond very quickly to someone who was working with him on a regular basis. He gets excited and playful when he sees other horses under saddle working. He really is very smart and with his willingness to learn he would be great for a natural horsemanship person who can teach him to be confident and who also can teach him that he does not have to be explosive at the canter. He is truly elegant to watch when running in the pasture.
