Temperament: Shadow is a sweet mare with great manners and no vices. She can be head strong at times, but is not mean about it, she just knows what she can get away with when it comes to kids.  She has been very exposed to children in her foster home though - an 8 year old timid boy handles her fine on the ground and under saddle.

Physical problems / health issues: Some popping in her left rear fetlock, farrier thinks it's some arthritis or possibly a tendon issue, but she's riding sound with light work only.

Interaction with horses: Dominant mare, has kicked at other horses, but they mostly work it out and stay out of her way. She can get nervous when she's alone, so does need another horse for company on rides.

Interaction with people: Loves attention.

History: Seized by law enforcement and awarded to the organization.

Training / abilities: Shadow is a former show horse and well trained in English riding.  She can be hard for the 8 year old boy in the foster family to get moving under saddle and can get barn sour with him, but she presents no bad habits, just isn't very responsive and has a tendency to just head back to the barn.  For someone with a bit more skill, such as the 13 year old girl that rode her, she was much more responsive and willing.  She really is dead broke.  Does not readily neck rein since she's not a western horse.  Likes to have another horse out on trails, but isn't spooky at all.

Lighter riding with lighter weight riders. Has been used hard in the past and has some mild arthritis or a tendon issue with her left rear.  Cannot do hard riding anymore or difficult or long trails.  Ideal family horse for riding around the ranch.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Advanced beginner on ground and under saddle.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No. Reared? No. Kicked? No. Bitten? No. Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes. Lead? Yes. Tie? Yes. Trailer? Yes. Clip? Yes. Trim Feet? Yes. Bathe? Yes.

Special needs: Senior feed and yearly teeth floating. Currently on a 12% pellet, gallon and a half twice a day, 6 pounds total.  She's also on an MSM/Glucosamine supplement for the arthritis.

Other comments: Shadow would make any family an ideal horse as long as they are willing to do some extra feeding. At her age, she needs to be on a senior feed.  She can still eat hay.
