Breed:
Thoroughbred Sex: Gelding DOB:
25 years Weight: Height:
~16 hh
Arrival
Date:
October 2005
Location: Caldwell, TX
Adoption Fee:
Unavailable
Temperament:
Amos is a seasoned older horse who has traveled and shown a great
deal in his youth. He's well behaved.
Physical problems / health issues:
Cancerous growths on his
face (see photo above)
that will eventually
result in compromised
eating and he will need
to be put down. Right
now, he's doing okay and
is stable with the
growths. As long
as he's eating fine and
enjoying life, he'll
continue to roam his
foster mom's pasture.
He does have a tendency
to bang the growth on
his feed bin and
sometimes on other
pasture objects.
They will break open and
can bleed some at these
times. Otherwise, he's quite an easy keeper for
his age.
Interaction with horses:
Gets along fine with
others, though may be
dominant in some
situations.
Interaction with people:
History:
Seized by law enforcement due to neglect
and awarded to the
rescue. He was a stadium jumper,
reportedly went to the
Olympics.
Training / abilities:
Well broke to ride, though he cannot be
ridden any longer due to
the growths on his face.
He cannot be haltered
easily and no
bridle/hackamore would
work on him. He
cannot have anything
rubbing on the growths.
Right now, only a loose
rope halter is used to
lead him. He's getting
healthy, then his skills will be
assessed further.
