Temperament: Calm and gentle but aloof.

Physical problems / health issues: Akila is blind in his right eye but handles the sight problem well.  He also has had his hip broken at some point; this causes him to short step rather than limp.  He does not appear to be in pain from it.  He also has scars of an unknown origin on both front ankles.

Interaction with horses: He is in a large mixed herd and does well.  He is not aggressive but does not seem to be picked on, either.

Interaction with people: Akila tries to stay away from people but if you are persistent, he will let you catch him and then he is cooperative.  He thinks he has more important things to do with the other horses; he would rather stay with them.  Akila would benefit greatly in a one-on-one situation in a loving home that could show him how fun people can be.

History: Surrendered in lieu of seizure.

Training / abilities: We are certain he has been ridden in the past but his hip problem makes him unrideable now.  He can be led and tied quite easily.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Beginner.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No Reared? No Kicked? No Bitten? No Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes Lead? Yes Tie? Yes Trailer? Yes Clip? Unknown Trim Feet? Yes, but with difficulty because of his physical problems Bathe? Not crazy about bathing

Special needs: Akila’s adoptive home needs to be aware of his physical limitations.

Other comments: Akila is gorgeous and would benefit greatly in a loving home situation  where he will get more attention.  He is sweet with other horses and would be a terrific companion horse.
