DOB: 2002
Weight:
970 lbs
Height:
15 hh
Arrival date:
April 2006
Location:
Austin, TX

Temperament:
Abigail is very much a young horse in
personality still. She sometimes isn't conscious of where she's
putting her large self and can be fidgety at times. She's got a
great heart though and is very sweet in nature. She will stand
at the gate and greet
you as you approach.
Physical problems / health issues:
Abby had a severe
laceration to her right
shoulder/chest area due
to a t-post accident.
See photos for the
progress on the injury,
which has healed
fantastically with no
proud flesh growth. She
is still recovering from
her wound and currently
is sound at a walk/trot
when going straight and
to the left. She’s also
sound when she's running
around with the other
horses (that includes
all mandatory bucking,
whirling, sliding, and
jumping with glee
behaviors). If she
turns too sharply to the
right, she still drops a
little momentarily and
comes right back up.
She still needs physical
rehab work to muscle up
again, especially the
injured leg, but she’s
making great progress.
She's a long way from
dragging her right leg
as she was when she
came, but she's not
going to be ready for
sport riding in the near
future and sport may
continue to be
questionable. She will
make an excellent
pleasure horse.
Abigail's right eye
has a cloudy patch at
the bottom. The vet
says it appears to be an
old injury. She does
seem to have a little
less vision in that eye
but it doesn’t seem to
bother her. She also
had an ulcer when she
first arrived in foster
care. This was treated
successfully with
Succeed.
Interaction with horses:
She's doing well with a herd
of mares, not dominant in her current set.
Interaction with people:
Her temperament is
lovely. She's sweet and
manageable, albeit a
little pushy at times
and can be fidgety. She
seems to be a little
high strung by nature,
but is really calming
down with training and
handling.
History:
Donation due to injury.
Sport horse, reportedly
was in training for barrels.
Training
/ abilities:
Abby has recently begun
working under saddle
again and is proving our
suspicions of how nice
she will be. She neck
reins and responds
fairly well to the leg.
So far she has only been
worked at the walk and
trot under saddle but
has willingly cantered
in the round pen. We
have been working on her
round pen skills and
building up her
confidence in her leg.
She clearly has done
round pen work in the
past and while she likes
to test the limits she
does quite well.
Experience level required to work with this horse:
Intermediate, she can be oblivious to personal space at times and
gets fidgety. . We’ve discovered that she gets especially
fidgety and anxious when
she’s in pain (e.g.,
ulcer, eye
infection). We
anticipate that she will
require at least an
intermediate under
saddle.
Has this horse ever: Bucked?
No.
Reared? No. Kicked? No. Bitten?
No.
Other?
Ground handling:
Catch? Yes. Lead? Yes.
Tie? Yes. Trailer? Yes.
Clip? Unknown. Trim
Feet? Yes, though she
has been a little tender
in front due to the hard
rocky ground at her
foster home. She
recently got shoes in
front, and she’s going
much better. Bathe?
Yes.
Special needs:
Other comments:
Big and bold young mare.
This is a fun horse who
is very people oriented
and will make someone a
great pleasure horse!!
