Temperament: Abe is a nice horse who sometimes needs reminding of his manners.  He can run into your space a bit and tends to be unaware of his body at times.  He's not a real cuddly type, but will cooperate on the ground when asked.  Since he was severely starved, he still can get very anxious about food.  He will need someone that can gently remind him of his boundaries on the ground.

Physical problems / health issues: Malnourishment, appears very sound.  He has very thick legs and good looking feet.  Very sturdy horse, will be built like a brick with weight.

Interaction with horses: He gets along with another mare brought into foster care just a couple weeks after he arrived.  He and Orchid get along very well; they eat out of the same bucket. They are pastured with two more docile horses and they are dominant over them.  He could be dominant in some situations, but in others, not so much.  He’s probably middle of the herd unless food is involved.

Interaction with people: Easy to approach and catch as he's always looking for food at this early stage in his rehab.  Once you get his attention and he realizes there isn't food coming (since he already ate!), he will settle in and cooperate.

History: Donation.  He was purchased to be a sort of therapy horse, but the buyer was told he was in his mid-teens.  When she got him home, he started losing weight and she discovered he was much older.  She was not able to pay for the amount of feed he needed, in addition to her other horses, so she donated him to the organization.

Training / abilities: Abe is dead broke. He was recently ridden by a 10 year old beginner with just a halter. He went wherever she pulled and stopped whenever she said whoa.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Beginner

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No. Reared? No. Kicked? No. Bitten? No. Other? No.

Ground handling: Catch? Yes. Lead? Yes. Tie? No. Trailer? Yes. Clip? Not yet attempted. Trim Feet? Not yet attempted. Bathe? Not yet attempted.

Special needs: Senior feeding regimen

Other comments: Abe is going to make a very solid horse for someone, even at his age, he has a lot of energy
